October 06, 2018 | Men's Soccer
Princeton stays unbeaten in Ivy League play with a 2-0 win over Brown on Saturday, Oct. 6 on Sherrerd Field. Sophomore Kevin O'Toole had a goal and an assist, while junior goalkeeper Jacob Schachner stopped a penalty kick in his fourth shutout of the season.
The Tigers were itching to get a goal in the first half, outshooting the Bears 12-3. The best chance came in the final minute when sophomore Bobby Hickson had a header off a free kick that had to be saved off the line by a defender.
Princeton kept the chances going and converted in the 50th minute. Senior Sean McSherry played a long ball where it was collected by Hickson in the right corner. He saw O'Toole open at the top of the 18-yard box and feed him, where he took one step and shot past two defenders and goalkeeper James Swomley and into the lower left corner.
O'Toole set up Gaby Paniagua's goal in the 55th minute with some nifty footwork to school his defender and put the ball right into the box for Paniagua to get a header and send it home.
While Princeton's offense kept testing Swomley, who finished the game with seven saves, the Tiger defense was relentless. The allowed just nine total shots, three on goal and were able to limit Brown to three corners.
Schachner kept the clean sheet and got the Tiger faithful on their feet when he stopped a penalty kick in the 76th minute. Matthew Chow took the chance, after just checking into the game and Schacher made a diving save to maintain the shutout.
