
Princeton Starts Off Strong From Deep, but No. 16 DePaul Earns 82-67 Victory

CANCUN, Mex. – The No. 16 DePaul Blue Demons (2-1) held the Princeton Tigers (1-4) to nine points in the fourth quarter, earning an 82-67 victory at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya on Thursday afternoon.
Sydney Boyer registered a career-high 16 points including four three-pointers while Carlie Littlefield dropped in 16 points and six rebounds. Sydney Jordan and Julia Cunningham also added 10 points each in the loss.
The Tigers ran off 10 of the first 16 points to open the contest behind treys form Littlefield and Stone on consecutive possessions. Boyer's first long-range bucket gave the Tigers their largest advantage of the frame, 16-8, with 3:41 to go. Princeton kept the Blue Demons at bay, taking a 25-19 lead into the second stanza. Princeton's offense hardly slowed down as it sprinted to a 15-point advantage, 39-24, just three minutes into the second quarter. DePaul countered with a 9-1 spurt, cutting its deficit to seven, 40-33, as the clock ticked under five minutes to go.

DePaul finished the first half with the final seven points, trailing 46-42 at the break. The Tigers had 10 three-pointers in the first 20 minutes on 10-of-19 shooting (52.6 percent). Six different players hit a trey in that half.
The defensive level was turned up by both squads in the third frame as the two combined for 28 points and 10 made baskets. Two free throws by the DePaul's Kelly Campbell with five seconds left tied the contest at 58-all, heading into the fourth quarter.
Sonya Morris's long-distance basket to begin the final stanza gave the No. 16 ranked team in the country its first lead since the 8:21 mark of the first quarter. The Blue Demons pushed their lead to eight before this three-pointer by Boyer kept the Tigers within striking distance …

DePaul would put the matchup out of reach with a 15-1 run over the next five minutes to earn the victory. The Tigers finished with four players in double figures for the second straight game. Head coach Courtney Banghart's team will play the No. 15 Syracuse Orange tomorrow (Nov. 23) at 1:30 p.m.
