Balanced Offensive Attack Pushes Princeton Past St. Francis-Brooklyn

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – The Princeton Tigers used a balanced offensive effort with four players in double figures in an 83-64 victory over the St. Francis-Brooklyn Terriers at the Pope Physical Education Center on Wednesday afternoon.

Julia Cunningham led the way with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting including five three-pointers. The freshman also had seven rebounds and seven assists. Bella Alarie and Gabrielle Rush combined for 36 points while Grace Stone added 10 points. Alarie was one board shy of a double-double, posting six assists and three blocks in the win. Princeton had 27 assists in the game, the most since Jan. of 2013 against Penn.

Princeton's offense started off slowly, going 1-of-9 from the floor, trailing 7-3, five minutes in. The Tigers finally took the lead after an And-1 from Alarie as the clock read 3:23. The two teams exchanged rallies before Cunningham's third trey of the frame gave the Tigers a 20-18 lead after the first quarter.

The Tigers ran out with a 11-4 push to begin the second stanza, extending its lead to nine, 31-22, at the 6:54 mark. The home squad didn't go away, scoring seven straight over 90 seconds of game action. Princeton kept its distance, leading by as many as the nine before taking a 42-35 lead into the intermission.

Head coach Courtney Banghart's squad snagged the first seven points of the third frame, improving to its lead to 14, 49-35, making St. Francis-Brooklyn call timeout three minutes in. The Terriers climbed within nine, trailing 55-46 as the fourth quarter got started.

Princeton put the game away with a 12-2 jump during the first three minutes of the fourth stanza, growing its advantage to 19, 67-48. St. Francis-Brooklyn did not threaten the rest of the way. Jade Johnson led all scorers with 31 points in the loss for the Terriers.

It's the fifth consecutive victory for the Tigers as they improve to 6-7 overall while St. Francis-Brooklyn drops to 6-5 this season. Princeton heads to Hartford on Friday (Dec. 21) to wrap up the week. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., and can be viewed on ESPN+.
