Princeton Encounters St. Francis-Brooklyn and Hartford This Week

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers head on the road for two contests this week against the St. Francis-Brooklyn Terriers and the Hartford Hawks.

Currently on a four-game winning streak, head coach Courtney Banghart's group has outscored its opponents by 13.8 points per game since starting the year 1-7.

Long Range Buckets – Marist hit seven three-pointers in the first half, running out to a 37-26 half-time advantage. Five different players hit a trey in the first 20 minutes, highlighted by Rebekah Hand's three buckets from long range. The Red Foxes registered just 20 points in the second half and went just 2-of-7 beyond the three-point line

Rebekah Hand – Hand was impressive against Princeton, scoring 20 points, grabbing five rebounds. The junior was 6-of-9 from the floor, hitting all four three-point attempts and free throws. Hand did not miss a shot in the first half, but was 2-of-5 in the second half.

Block Parties – Princeton had five swats vs. Marist led by Bella Alarie and Sydney Jordan with two each. Four blocks came in the final 20 minutes as the Tigers held Red Foxes to 20 points on 7-of-24 shooting (29.2 percent).

Bella Alarie – The 2018 Ivy Player of the Year was outstanding against Marist, scoring 24 points, tying her career-high with 10 baskets, adding four assists, three steals and two blocks. That along with her performance vs. Monmouth earned her Ivy Player of the Week honors for the second straight week.

Defense, Actually – St. Francis-Brooklyn ranks near the bottom of Division I in scoring defense (73.7) at 322nd. After allowing under 70 points in their first two games of the season, the Terriers have given up over 90 points twice and given up at least 70 four other times.

Santa Clause Threes – The Terriers are among the best in the country (fourth) in three-point field goal percentage (42.9). Jade Johnson leads the squad at 46.3 percent from deep and has made at least three treys in seven contests.

A Rebounding Story – Hartford has not been very good at rebounding this season, posting a -6.1 margin (308th), securing more boards than its opponent just twice. During Princeton's winning streak, the Tigers have grabbed at least 40 boards in three of the four games and have averaged 10 offensive caroms per contest.

How The Grinch Stole Passes – Princeton ranks among the top-25 among all Division-I foes in total steals (111). St. Francis-Brooklyn averages 19.3 turnovers per game while Hartford sits at 18.1 turnovers, both which rank near the bottom of the NCAA. The Tigers have picked up at least 12 steals in their last three meetings led by Carlie Littlefield and Sydney Jordan with nine each.
