NFHCA Announcement
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers had three players named to the 2018 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-America teams, the organization released today.
Â
Elise Wong was named first team All-America, while Clara Roth and Julianna Tornetta garnered third team honors. It's the first time that all three players have been picked as All-Americans.
Â
Princeton finished the season with the eighth lowest goals against average (1.17) in the country behind a strong defensive unit, highlighted by Wong, the 2018 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year. The Tigers had six shutouts, five of which came in Ivy action. Princeton did not allow a goal for over 180 minutes of game time (Sept. 22-30) and just one in a four-game stretch (Sept. 22-Oct. 5). The Tigers did not give up a shot against Brown (Oct. 13) and allowed one attempt against Cornell (Oct. 27).
Â
Roth was the 2018 Ivy League Player of the Year, securing 13 goals and eight assists for 34 points. The sophomore scored a goal in 10 games and had three-multi-goal outings. She was second in the Ivy League in points and goals and was tied for third in assists. Tornetta was fourth in the conference in points (27), tied for sixth in helpers (seven).
Â
Wong graduates as a four-time All-Region and All-Ivy player and secured two NCAA Final Four All-Tournament awards. As sophomores, Tornetta and Roth have picked up All-Region accolades in each of their two seasons at Princeton.
Â
Princeton finished 15-5 overall and reached the NCAA Final Four for the second time in three years. More than half of their victories (eight) came against ranked opponents, leading them to be named the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
