Princeton Heads To NYC For Columbia Dual
December 07, 2018 | Men's Swimming and Diving
It would be difficult to ask for a much better start to the 2018-19 Princeton men's swimming & diving season, and the Tigers would love to carry that momentum into the holiday break. After winning both invitationals and all five dual meets, including a trio in the Ivy League, Princeton will head to Uris Natatorium in New York City Saturday afternoon (1 pm) to take on Columbia.
This will be the second time that Princeton and Columbia will have met in the span of a week. Both teams took part in the Bruno Invitational last weekend, and they finished 1-2 overall, with more than 250 points between runner-up Columbia and third-place Johns Hopkins. Princeton won the meet with 1010 points, while Columbia, which did not bring divers to the meet, took second with 902 points.
Princeton used its depth to win both the Big Al Invite and the Bruno Invite, though the Tigers did get an individual win last weekend from freshman Raunak Khosla, who took the 200 fly in 1:44.13. Khsola has top-two Ivy League times in the 200 fly, 200 IM (1:45.46) and the 400 IM (3:48.51). Saturday could also feature two of the Ivy's fastest in the 200 free; Columbia's Nianguo Liu has the second-fastest time of 1:35.75, while Princeton senior co-captain Cole Buese has the third-fastest time of 1:37.02.
Saturday will also feature a pair of young divers who made Ivy League history last February. Princeton freshman Colten Young scored 392.50 points on the 3-meter board, the seventh-most in the history of the event at Ivies, and the second-most ever by a freshman at the Ivy League Championships. The only freshman to ever post a higher score than Young just happened to do it on the same night, as Columbia's Jonathan Suckow set the Ivy record with 447.80 points.
This will be Princeton's last meet of 2018; the Tigers will return to DeNunzio Pool for a meet against Navy on Saturday, Jan. 5.
