Princeton Extends Win Streak To Five With Dominating Performance Over Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Princeton Tigers (18-4, 8-1 Ivy) held the Cornell Big Red (6-16, 2-7 Ivy) without a basket for the first 9:52 of game action in a 72-40 victory at Newman Arena on Friday evening.

Cornell missed its first eight shots and finished with 15 baskets on 30.6 percent shooting. Bella Alarie had a game-high 18 points, along with nine rebounds, four steals and three blocks in just 21 minutes. Sydney Jordan did not miss a shot in six attempts, adding 12 points, setting a new benchmark in points. It's her third time in the last two years that she's been perfect from the floor. Tia Weledji had 11 off the bench while Leslie Robinson had eight assists in the victory.

In the first frame, the Tigers stole five passes, blocked three steals and created seven turnovers as they led 15-2 after 10 minutes. In second stanza, Cornell climbed within 11 before a 12-2 sprint by Princeton pushed its advantage to 21, 29-8, at the 5:46 mark. The Tigers did not miss in that stretch, going 6-of-6, while causing four turnovers. The Big Red saw its deficit sit at 14, 35-21, at the break.

The road squad dropped seven consecutive points and 13 out of 15 to begin the second half, stretching its lead to 25, 50-25, as the clock read 3:32. Cornell was 3-of-14 (21.4 percent) in the third quarter as it trailed, 56-29, after 30 minutes. Princeton led by as many as 35 in the game before taking home its 12th win in its last 13 contests.

Stephanie Umeh was the only player for Cornell in double figures with 12. Princeton had 12 steals, a season-best 10 blocks and held Cornell without a three-pointer. It's the first time that head coach Courtney Banghart's squad has held an opponent without a three-pointer since Mar. 7, 2014 against Cornell.

Princeton gets back in action Saturday at Columbia, who fell to Penn, 75-39, on Friday. The matchup will get underway at 4 p.m. and be streamed on the Ivy League Network. Fans can also see the game on SNY.
