PRINCETON, N.J. – Having won 10 out of 11 and surpassing its win total from last year, the Princeton Tigers head on the road to battle Cornell (Feb. 16) and Columbia (Feb. 17).
Â
The contest vs. Cornell will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. start time for Columbia. Every Ivy meeting is streamed on the Ivy League Network while the Columbia matchup can also be viewed on SNY.
Â
Before five items about Cornell and Columbia, let's take one last look at the Penn game …
Â
Carlie Littlefield – While the freshman point guard was held in check on the scoring end, she did add a season-best seven rebounds along with two assists.
Â
Abby Meyers – Meyers' hot streak has continued with an impressive 17-point outing against the Quakers. The freshman knocked down three treys and grabbed three rebounds in the rout over Penn.
Â
Michelle Nwokedi – The 2017 Ivy League Player of the Year was held in check for the Quakers as she was held to an inefficient 5-of-18 from the floor, scoring 12 points. The senior forward did have nine rebounds, but Princeton outrebounded the Quakers, 47-37, on Tuesday.
Â
Now on to Cornell, Columbia …
Â
Princeton's Defense – The Tigers on the defensive end have been, not just the best team in the Ivy League, but one of the best in the country. Princeton has allowed just 55.4 points per game (18th), is 40th in field goal percentage defense (37.0) and 43rd in blocked shots per game (4.6). After allowing 70 points to Rutgers on Dec. 13, the Tigers have given up under 50 points six times. Opponents are shooting 35.4 percent and 29.3 percent from deep in that stretch.
Â
Abby Meyers – Since the start of the Ivy play, Meyers has been a key cog off the bench for the Tigers. In seven games since being held off the scoreboard against Penn at the Palestra, the freshman is averaging 10.6 points on 43.8 percent shooting including an impressive 46.2 percent from beyond the arc.
Â
Princeton's Bench – 0. That's how many points Princeton's bench scored against Chattanooga on Dec. 21 in Florida. Since then, the Tigers' bench has vital as its rolled off an 8-1 mark, averaging over 30 points in that span. The group is shooting 37.4 percent from the three-point line and has contributed 16.0 rebounds per game. In Ivy play, the bench has dropped in at least 30 points in every game except for two.
Â
Cornell's Offense – Since gradutating its entire starting lineup from a year ago, it's been a struggle on the offensive end for the Big Red. Cornell has not scored more than 60 points in seven of its last eight games. It ranks 160th in Division I in three-point field goal percentage (32.1), 196th in three-pointers per game (5.6) and 320th in scoring offense (56.6).
Â
Columbia's Rebounding – Despite having Camille Zimmerman, who's tied for first in the Ivy League in rebounding (9.7), the Lions are 291st nationally in rebounds per game (34.6) and 321st in rebounding margin (-6.1). Columbia's next best rebounder is Josie Little at 5.8 per game in five contests this year. Princeton had 51-28 rebounding advantage when the two squads met earlier this season.
