Tigers Earn Two Wins To Open Princeton Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers began the Princeton Invite with two impressive victories over the George Washington Colonials and Iona Gaels at DeNunzio Pool on Saturday.
No. 22 Princeton 14, George Washington 6
The Highlights:
Princeton scored the last three goals of the first half to take a 7-4 lead into the intermission.
The Tigers allowed just two goals in the second half.
Haley Wan and Eliza Britt combined for seven goals.

Trailing by two, George Washington recorded three straight goals before Wan's tally tied the score at 3-all after eight minutes. After exchanging goals, the home squad got tallies from Maddie Pendolino, Amy Castellano and Wan to take a 7-4 advantage at end of the first half.
Princeton held the Colonials without a goal for the first 4:45 of the third quarter as it ran its lead to four, 10-6, after 24 minutes. The Tigers' defense shined in the fourth as they kept the Colonials off the scoreboard with freshman Marissa Webb posted five of her 14 saves during that quarter.

Chelsea Johnson had a hat trick while four others posted multi-goal outings for Princeton.

Marissa Webb did not allow a goal for the first 8:57 of the game as Princeton raced out to a 6-0 lead. The Tigers scored three more times after Iona got on the scoreboard, taking an eight-goal advantage (9-1) at halftime. The Tigers were never threatened in the second half. Webb continued her great performance as she finished with six saves and two goals allowed until getting pulled with 5:45 to go in the game.
Princeton will wrap up the invitational Sunday against Villanova (9:15 a.m.) and the Chinese National Team (2:45 p.m.). Both games will streamed on the Ivy League Network
