Men's Tennis Team Falls to Portland in Northwest Opener
February 02, 2018 | Men's Tennis
The Pilots began with a doubles-point win, though Princeton answered back with Kaiser's 6-3, 6-4 win. The rest, though, went Portland's way with each of the top three matches going three sets. One of those was a battle between nationally ranked players, with Princeton's 114th-ranked rookie Ryan Seggerman getting the first set off 18th-ranked Mike Pervolarakis, but the Pilot senior won the last two to get the point and put his team up 3-1.
"Portland played a good match and won the pivotal points," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "They're a strong team at home and we knew that going in. However, I'm disappointed in terms of our ability to
demonstrate the resolve and grit to shift the momentum. Despite losing the doubles point, we battled back and had plenty of chances. We'll learn from this, make some adjustments and be better Saturday at Washington."
Princeton will have Friday away from competition before battling Washington Saturday at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET. The Huskies, who are 2-1 with the lone loss coming two weekends ago 4-3 to then-No. 17 Michigan, will play Friday against Pepperdine. Live coverage of Saturday's match will be available here.
