Washington Tops Men's Tennis Team to Cap Pacific Northwest Trip
February 03, 2018 | Men's Tennis
The Princeton men's tennis team's trip to the Pacific Northwest came to an end Saturday in Seattle with host Washington taking a 5-2 win.
The Huskies began by winning the doubles point and then took the first three singles matches off the court to clinch the win. Davey Roberts and Kial Kaiser had Princeton's wins in singles play, Roberts on court five and Kaiser on court three.
"Aside from a poor outing in doubles, I thought we took a step forward with the way we competed in singles," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "Washington is a very seasoned, well-coached, top-25 caliber team." We were simply pressing early on, but we settled in and we gave ourselves a chance. Davey and Kial played great tennis in getting wins over tough opponents. Our freshmen didn't have their best outings on courts one and two, but they had tough matchups. This will serve to be a productive trip as the season goes on. We scheduled very challenging matches throughout the season and if our guys continue learning and playing free mentally, we'll start to see significant progress. We'll return back to the East Coast tomorrow, have a good week of practice and get ready for another battle with Ole Miss on Friday night."
Washington won its third in a row to improve to 4-1 on the season while Princeton fell to 2-2.
Friday's match against Mississippi will take place at Centercourt Athletic Club in Chatham, N.J. The Tigers will then play twice Sunday at Army West Point, first against Buffalo and then against the Black Knights.
