Yale Drops Princeton, 73-59

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Leslie Robinson and Gabrielle Rush combined for 34 points, but the Yale Bulldogs (10-8, 3-2 Ivy) sank 11 three-pointers in a 73-59 victory at the Lee Amphitheater on Friday evening.

Robinson just missed a double-double with 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting (57.1 percent) and nine rebounds. Rush knocked down four three-pointers, registering 16 points. Bella Alarie was just shy of a triple double with eight points, nine rebounds and eight blocks. Her eight blocks matched her career best and is tied for second all-time in a single game.

Princeton ran out with the first nine points of the game until Yale responded with a 13-3 spurt to take a 13-12 lead at the 4:15 mark of the quarter. The Bulldogs continued to push ahead, jumping in front by eight, 22-14, before a Tia Weledji jumper with 33 seconds to go. In the frame.

This time, it was Yale that begun the quarter with a run, scoring 10 straight, to go ahead by 16, 32-16, with seven minutes left in the first half. Princeton cut its deficit to single digits, 37-28, but a trey from Yale's Mary Ann Santucci put the home squad back up by 12, 40-28, at the break. Robinson led Princeton with 12 points and five rebounds. Yale was 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) from deep in the first 20 minutes of game action.

Yale pushed out with nine of the first 12 points of the second half as it ran its lead to 18, 49-31, just 3:16 into the frame. The Tigers held the Bulldogs without a basket for almost five minutes as they closed the gap to 11 with 1:41 remaining. A jumper from Yale's Roxy Barahman set the score at 55-41 as the two Ivy foes headed into the fourth quarter.

In front by 10, Yale extended its advantage to 18 with another 9-3 sprint as the clock ticked under seven minutes left. Rush knocked down four three-pointers in the stanza, but Princeton could not get any closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Five players scored in double figures for Yale, highlighted by Barahman's 17 points. Princeton had 15 assists on 20 made baskets and stole 11 passes. Qalea Ismail made her season debut and scored four points in the loss.

Princeton (13-4, 3-1 Ivy) continues its road trip at Brown (13-5, 1-4 Ivy) tomorrow. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be streamed on the Ivy League Network.
