PLAYOFFS
Princeton can finish between fifth and ninth in the ECAC race, along with five other teams. With two wins this weekend, the Tigers will guarantee themselves home ice in the first round. The four first-round byes have been claimed (Cornell, Clarkson, Union and Harvard) though seeding is still to be determined. The first round will be next weekend, March 2-4 at the sites of the No. 5, 6, 7, and 8 seeds.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton is 12-12-3 on the season and is currently tied for seventh place in the league standings with a 9-10-1 ECAC record. The Tigers have won six of their last eight games and look to gain home ice in the playoffs this weekend. Princeton's offense is putting out 3.44 points per game, ranking sixth nationally. Juniors Max Véronneau and Ryan Kuffner ranked third and fourth in the country in scoring with Véronneau totaling 39 points on 12 goals and 27 assists. Kuffner has 37 points on 23 goals and 14 assists. Senior David Hallisey has also eclipsed the 30-point marker with 16 goals and 16 assists. Sophomore Jackson Cressey adds 28 points and four others are in double digits. Princeton's power play ranks fifth in the nation converting 26.3 percent of its chances (25/95). Freshman goaltender Ryan Ferland has a .908 save percentage and a 3.17 goals against average. He has made 30+ saves in 14 games this year with a season-high 43 in a tie against No. 1 St. Cloud, which included stopping 14 shots in overtime.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson is ranked No. 10 the latest USCHO poll with an 19-8-5 overall record. The Golden Knights have already earned a bye for the first round of the ECAC tournament with an 11-5-4 record and will be one of the top four seeds. Though Clarkson had a 14-game win streak during the season, the Golden Knights have gone 1-5-4 and was swept last weekend at Dartmouth and Harvard. Three sophomores lead the scoring with Sheldon Rempal leading the way with 20 goals and 15 assists. Nico Sturm has 29 points on 12 goals and 17 assists, and Devon Brosseau has 20 assists and seven goals for 27 points. Four other skaters have 20+ points as well. Sophomore Jake Kielly has started in goal in all but two games. He owns a .930 save percentage and a 1.82 GAA. Clarkson's defense ranks second in the nation, limiting its opponents to just 1.88 goals per game. It's power play and penalty kill both rank in the top 10 with the power play first at 28 percent, and the penalty kill eighth at 85.3 percent.
THE PRINCETON/CLARKSON SERIES
Princeton has won the last two meetings with Clarkson including a 4-3 game on Feb. 3 at Hobey Baker Rink. Four of the last five games in the series have been decided by a solitary goal. Princeton's last win in Potsdam however was during the 2014 ECAC playoffs. Clarkson owns an 83-33-5 overall record and is 45-6 at home.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence is 7-23-2 on the season with is in 12th place in the league with a 3-16-1 conference mark. The Saints have lost their last three and five of the last six, which include a 5-4 OT game at Princeton. Junior Jacob Pritchard sits atop the scoring column with 19 points on eight goals and 11 assists. Senior Mike Marnell and sophomore Alex Gilmour both have a team-best 10 goals while senior defender Nolan Gluchowski has the most assists with 16. Marnell, Gluchowski and sophomore Carson Gicewicz all have 18 total points. Junior Arthur Brey has started in all but seven games and has a .902 save percentage and a 3.50 GAA.
THE PRINCETON/ST LAWRENCE SERIES
Princeton has won the last two meetings with St. Lawrence including a 5-4 overtime win on Feb. 2 at Hobey Baker Rink. It's been a while since the Tigers have claimed a win at Appleton - seven years in fact. Overall the Saints holds a 70-23-11 edge in the series and are 35-8-3 in Canton.
