Tigers Two Points Out of First Place After Day 1 of #IvyHeps

HANOVER, N.H. (2/24/18) – After four events have been scored Princeton finds itself just two points out of first place after Day 1 of the 2018 Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championships. The Tigers have 20 points, while Harvard and Penn both have 22.
The Tigers grabbed eight points in the first event of the weekend, the shot put. Senior Kennedy O'Dell was third with a throw of 14.69 (48-2.50) coming on her fourth attempt while freshman Obiageri Amaechi earned her first ever Ivy Heps points with a fifth-place throw of 14.38 (47-2.25) on her final attempt to climb from eighth place.
In the pentathlon, senior Maia Craver and junior Frances Lodged earned the Tigers seven points. Craver finished third with 3,645 points taking second place in both the 60 hurdles (8.90) and the shot put (11.52). She was fourth in the long jump (5.38), sixth in the 800 (2:26.18) and seventh in the high jump (1.55). Lodge claimed 3,486 points with her best event being the 800 in which she took second place with a 2:21.75. She was fourth in the high jump (1.61), fifth in the shot put (9.74), and eighth in the 60 hurdles (9.42) and long jump (5.16).
In the lone track final of the day, the 3,000 meters Princeton grabbed five points with two scorers. The 2017 Ivy League cross country champion Gabi Forrest finished with a time of 9:44.48 for fourth place and freshman Peyton Brown was sixth with a 9:47.08.
Senior Christina Walter qualified for two finals in the 60 and 200. She had the fifth-best prelim time in the 60 with a 7.56 and the fourth-best time in the 200 at 24.62.
In the preliminary mile, both Tigers ran smart races. Freshman Sophie Cantine placed fifth at 5:48.89 and junior Madison Offstein placed seventh at 4:54.06 to advance to tomorrow's finale.
The Tigers have another two in the final of the 500 tomorrow in junior Allison Glossinger and sophomore Devon Block-Funkhouser. Glossinger second in heat 3 with a 1:15.92 and Block-Funkhouser was third in heat 4 at 1:15.99.
Junior Jackie Berardo had the fastest overall time in the prelims of the 800 at 2:09.23 and will take on the final tomorrow. Berardo was the runner up in the event at outdoor Heps last year.
Junior Anna Jurew will be in tomorrow's 1,000 meter final after a 2:45.85 the third fastest time this afternoon.
Competition for tomorrow starts at 9 a.m., with the weight throw event. The mile final will begin the track events at 10 a.m.
