Princeton Earns Top Seed in ECAC Championship, Set to Open Friday
February 07, 2018 | Women's Tennis
When the ECAC women's tennis championship draw was announced Wednesday, the Princeton women's tennis team was revealed as the top seed in the eight-team, all-Ivy League bracket.
The Tigers will have an early start Friday with an 8 a.m. first serve against eighth-seeded Harvard. Princeton will then face either fourth-seeded Penn or fifth-seeded Brown at 2 p.m. with a win or 8 a.m. with a loss. On the other side of the bracket, second-seeded Dartmouth and seventh-seeded Columbia will have Friday's last match, at 5 p.m., following third-seeded Cornell against sixth-seeded Yale, at 2 p.m.
All matches will be played to decision. Sunday's 9 a.m. match will be played at the Eve Kraft Community Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
Princeton is receiving votes in the latest USTA top-25 poll, getting 15 poll points to stand as the highest-ranked team outside the top 25. Rookie Stephanie Schrage, at No. 81, and senior Katrine Steffensen, at No. 100, are ranked in Wednesday's ITA top 125 in singles play.
The Tigers, at 3-0, are coming off a win over No. 12/12 Auburn Sunday in Jadwin, and the ECAC Championship continues a homestand that will continue through the first weekend in March.
Harvard's Erica Oosterhout, at No. 40, and Yale's Samantha Martinelli, at No. 103, are the other ITA-ranked singles players in the tournament.
Princeton has competed in the ECAC Championship every year since 2009 except for 2013, and the team's top finish was runner-up in 2009, 2011 and 2012. The weekend's schedule is below.
