Tigers Take Streak on the Road as Brown & Yale Await

EYE ON THE TIGERS
The College Hockey News Team of the Week Princeton has won its last four games, including a 4-3 win over No. 3 Clarkson on Saturday night. Junior Ryan Kuffner was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week and the NCAA First Star of the Week after collecting nine points last week including two game winners. On the season he has 31 points on a team-high 19 goals and 12 assists. With 87 career points he has cracked the Princeton top-25 scoring list. Classmate Max Véronneau has 32 points on 10 goals and a team-best 22 assists and 84 career points. Senior David Hallisey has scored 14 times and adds 10 assists. Junior Josh Teves is the top scoring defender with three goals and 18 helpers. Sophomore Jackson Cressey, junior Alex Riche and senior Eric Robinson are also in double figures in scoring as the Tigers have the eighth best scoring offense in the nation averaging 3.30 goals per game. Princeton has a potent power play, converting on 25.9 percent of its chances - the fifth best in the nation. Freshman Ryan Ferland is 9-8-3 in net and has a .903 save percentage and a 3.11 goals against average. Backup seior Ben Halford earned his first win of the season on Friday against St. Lawrence and owns a .901 save percentage and a 2.97 GAA in the five games he's played this year.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown is 6-13-4 on the season and 5-10-1 in the league. It's been a couple of weeks since the Bears have faced a league opponent, Jan. 27 in fact when they played a 2-2 tie at Clarkson. Last Saturday Brown lost a 6-4 game to UConn. Sophomore Brent Beaudoin has 15 points on a team-high 11 assists and four goals. Junior Tommy Marchin is the leading goal scorer with eight tallies and four helpers. Senior Sam Lafferty (PIT) has five goals and seven assists. Freshman defender Tony Stillwell has each double digits with nine assists and one goal. Freshman Luke Kania has been the goaltender Brown has been using as of late. He is 2-7-4 with a 2.66 GAA and a .913 save percentage. Sophomore Gavin Nieto has not seen action since Jan. 6.
THE PRINCETON/BROWN SERIES
Brown owns an 87-68-11 edge in the all-time series with Princeton that began in 1900-01. The Bears halted a four-game winless skid in the series with a 3-0 win at Hobey Baker Rink in November. Jackson Cressey has the points per game against Brown with four assists in three games. Both Ryan Kuffner and and Max Veronneau have four points in five games.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
With an 11-11-1 overall record Yale will be without head coach Keith Allain this weekend as he heads to South Korea for the Olympics. At 6-9-1 the Bulldogs are 10th in the league standings. The team recently swept Arizona State in back-to-back OT games last weekend. Junior Joe Snively leads the offense with 12 goals and 10 assists for 22 points. Senior Ryan Hitchcock adds 15 points on five goals and 10 assists, while Evan Smith chips in six and six. Yale has been splitting goaltending duties between junior Sam Tucker and sophomore Corbin Kaczperski. Whichever goalie plays Friday, except the other against the Tigers. Tucker has an .899 save percentage and a 2.87 GAA in 16 games while Kaczperski has a 1.86 GAA and a .933 save percentage. Yale's power play is converting at just 9.6 percent, last in the nation while the penalty kill is 22nd at 82.2 percent.
THE PRINCETON/YALE SERIES
Princeton has won the last two meetings with Yale including a 5-4 win this past November. The Tigers claimed a 4-2 win the last time they visited Ingalls Rink in Feb. 2017. Overall Yale holds a 140-106-11 advantage since the first game on Jan. 19, 1901. Senior David Hallisey averages 1.00 point per game in the series with six in six games, while Eric Robinson has six in seven games.
