South Carolina Earns Series Sweep With Doubleheader Victories

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina completed a three-game sweep, taking down Princeton 7-3 in game one and 6-4 in game two.
Game 1 – South Carolina 7, Princeton 3
Six players had hits for the Tigers with Taylor Beckett posting a game-high two hits. Freshman Keith Gabrielson did not allow a hit in two relief frames, striking out a batter.
LT Tolbert began the scoring with a solo shot for the Gamecocks in the bottom of the second inning. A RBI double from TJ Hopkins and run-scoring knock from Madison Stokes gave the home squad a 3-0 advantage in the third frame.
In the fourth stanza, Conor Nolan reached on a throwing error and moved to third base on a double from Joseph Flynn. Nolan later scored on a wild pitch. A groundout and strikeout finished off the Tigers' threat. After South Carolina added another run, Princeton put the first two runners on in the top of the fifth, however a double play and fly out finished off the rally.
The Gamecocks improved their lead with an RBI hit from Tolbert in the home half of the fifth, setting the score at 5-1. In the sixth, Nolan ripped a double to left center field that allowed Asher Lee-Tyson to score, getting Princeton within three. A two-run home run from Hopkins put South Carolina ahead, 7-2 in the bottom of the stanza. Lee-Tyson completed the scoring with run-producing single in the seventh.
Game 2 – South Carolina 6, Princeton 4
The Tigers banged out 10 hits with Flynn, Max West and Sy Snedeker posting two hits each. Flynn and Snedeker also scored twice and hit home runs. Conor Nolan allowed just one run in four relief innings in the loss.
Tolbert hit a three-run blast to highlight the Gamecocks' first at-bat. South Carolina tacked on single runs in the second and third innings before Princeton got on the board.
Flynn singled to begin the inning before Snedeker ripped a triple to right center. The freshman came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Ramzi Haddad.
Flynn and Snedeker hit back-to-back home runs to open the top of the sixth frame, cutting the Tigers' deficit to one, 5-4. South Carolina added a crucial insurance run with a Stokes' RBI double in the eighth. Princeton put the first two runners on base in the ninth, but couldn't get a run across.
Princeton falls to 0-7 on the season while South Carolina improves to 11-5. The Tigers travel to Georgetown next week for a four-game set beginning on Friday (Mar. 16). First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
