Alarie and Robinson Help Princeton Dominate Yale, 78-57, In Ivy Tournament Semifinal

PHILADELPHIA – Behind their two first team All-Ivy players, the No. 1 seeded Princeton Tigers dominated the No. 4 seeded Yale Bulldogs, 78-57, at the Palestra on Saturday evening.

With the victory, the Tigers move on to the Ivy League Tournament Championship game against the winner of the No. 2 seeded Penn Quakers and No. 3 Harvard Crimson on Sunday at 4 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPNU. If you can't watch the game, you can listen to it on the Ivy League Network.

Bella Alarie snagged her 20th career double-double with 17 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. The sophomore contributed three blocks as well. Leslie Robinson also recorded her 13th double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds, adding two steals and a block. Carlie Littlefield dropped in 17 points, highlighted by four treys.

In front by one, Princeton pushed in front with a 7-1 run to jump ahead, 14-7, with 2:44 to go in the first quarter, leading to a Yale timeout. The Tigers took a 18-9 advantage into the second frame behind six points, five rebounds and two blocks from Alarie.

Yale got within four, 20-16, just 2:12 into the second frame, but Princeton countered with Robinson posting six straight points to back in front by double-digits, 26-16. A layup from Yale's Roxy Barahman cut the Bulldog's deficit to five, 26-21, but the Tigers pushed away with a 13-2 sprint to close the half. Head coach Courtney Banghart's unit, behind a combined 19 points from Robinson and Alarie, took a 39-23 lead into the break. Yale finished with just seven baskets in the first half.

As the second half got underway, the Tigers push their advantage to 20, 45-25, as the clock read 7:32. This time, it was Yale to make a run, going off with 18 of the next 25, setting the score at 52-43 with 56 seconds remaining. Senior Kenya Holland knocked down treys on back-to-back possessions to finish the quarter, giving Princeton a 58-43 lead after 30 minutes.

The Tigers continued to improve their lead, using 16-5 run to begin the fourth quarter, racing out to a 24-point lead, 74-48, with 4:05 to go. Yale would never threaten the rest of the way.

Alarie and Robinson's 27 rebounds outrebounded Yale's entire roster … by seven. Princeton made seven three-pointers with Littlefield's four and Holland's three pacing the Tigers. Head coach Courtney Banghart's bench had 26 points with four players scoring in the contest. The Tigers' 16 offensive rebounds led to 19 second chance points.
