Before Ivy League play begins this weekend, the Princeton softball team will continue their spring trip in Florida with games Tuesday at Stetson and Wednesday at Central Florida.
Both are 4 p.m. doubleheaders, though the forecast for Tuesday in the area includes rain.
The Tigers (1-13) won their first game of the season over Florida A&M Saturday with rookie Allie Reynolds throwing a no-hitter. Junior Keeley Walsh leads the regulars with a .372 average, getting 16 hits including a pair of doubles and a home run, and rookie Emily Taggart has the team's overall top batting average at .381 with eight hits in her 10 games played.
UCF is 3-0 all-time against Princeton, facing the Knights once each in 2002 in Marietta, Ga., and once each in 2014 and 2015 in Orlando. Stetson is 3-1 all-time against the Tigers with three of the games and the one Tiger win coming in 2007 and the most recent meeting coming in 2014 at Orlando.
UCF stands 17-11 entering the games against Princeton and hits .267 as a team with Denali Schappacher leading five regulars above .300. Kaitlyn Jensen has popped six of the team's 15 home runs. Four arms have shared UCF's 184 innings with Alea White (12-7, 2.01) throwing 121 2/3 of those and contributing to the team's 2.40 ERA. Princeton and UCF have one common opponent, with each defeating Florida A&M by a run.Â
Stetson is 20-10 entering the Princeton games, hitting .308 as a team with Ashly Smith leading three Hatters above .300 at .468 and a slugging percentage of .723. Lizzie Shubert and Devin Lewis have each hit five of the team's 18 home runs. Stetson's pitching staff has an ERA of 2.93 with Tori Perkins (12-5, 2.28) and Jaime Tino (8-4, 2.68) throwing all but 11 2/3 of the team's 191 innings. Princeton and Stetson have four common opponents this season but only one that both have already faced, with George Washington defeating Stetson once and Princeton three times. The Hatters beat Cornell once and Brown twice. Princeton will, of course, face Cornell and Brown during Ivy League play later on. Princeton fell Sunday to Florida Gulf Coast, which Stetson will face in Atlantic Sun play.
