Trio of Matches Ahead for Tigers in Florida
March 20, 2018 | Men's Tennis
A Wednesday (1:30 p.m.) visit to South Florida, a Friday (6 p.m.) visit to Central Florida and a Sunday (12 p.m.) visit to Florida Gulf Coast are ahead for the Princeton men's tennis team in the final series of matches before Ivy League play begins.
Princeton is ranked 46th nationally by the ITA, and among the Tigers' three opponents this weekend, UCF is a fellow top-50 team, ranked 40th this week. The Knights count Korey Lovett and Eero Vasa as the seventh-ranked doubles team in the nation by the ITA, and USF has Alberto Barroso-Campos ranked 72nd in singles and Barroso-Campos and Grayson Goldin ranked 41st as a doubles team.
The Tigers are 13-6 and are coming off a 4-3 loss at Penn State Saturday that came down to a third-set tiebreaker in the final singles match on court. USF enters at 6-10 after a four-match, 2-2 trip to California last week. UCF entered the week at 7-6 and will host Arkansas Wednesday, and FGCU is 5-8 with its last match coming last Saturday at home against Illinois State. Video and live stats are available for the UCF match, held at the USTA complex in Lake Nona, Fla., and @PtonMensTennis on Twitter will have match updates.
USF has won both all-time matches against Princeton, with those matches coming in 2010 and 2015, and UCF has won two of the three all-time contests, winning in 2004 and 2010 with a Tiger win in 2007. Princeton and FGCU have not met.
Following the week in Florida, Princeton will prep for the beginning of Ivy League play, set for Saturday, Mar. 31 at Penn. Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard and the Tigers are all in the ITA's top 50 as of the March 20 rankings.
