Harvard Sweeps Tigers in Ivy Series Opener

The Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the opener when Kaitlyn Waslawski's second-inning base hit brought home a one-out single from Mackenzie Meyer, and two batters later, Allison Harvey had a two-run double to take the three-run advantage. Harvard, though, responded with an eight-run third on six hits, two walks, two hit batters and an error. That preceded a three-run fourth inning on three hits, a hit batter and a walk, and Crimson pitcher Kathleen Duncan allowed only a hit and a hit batter over the last three innings as Harvard held off any Princeton rally try. Allie Reynolds took the loss in the opener for the Tigers, throwing the first 2 2/3 innings before Caroline Taber took over.Â
In game two, Harvard struck first, using a walk and a single to set up an Erin Lockhart two-run double in the first, and an inning later, a pair of singles led to another run and a 3-0 lead. Harvard pushed that to 4-0 in the fourth when Olivia Giaquinto had a two-out single as the Crimson's third base hit of the inning, and in the fifth, two hits, two walks and an error added up to a pair of runs to make it 6-0 for Harvard.
Princeton responded in the top of the sixth. getting base hits from Waslwaski and Megan Donahey to set up a Harvey sacrifice fly, and Keeley Walsh followed that with a single to cut the deficit to 6-2. In the seventh, Meyer had her second home run of the season with a two-out solo shot, but that was as close as Princeton got.
Princeton and Harvard will close the series with a single game at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in Cambridge. It'll be video streamed on the Ivy League Network with live stats here.
