Ivy Slate to Resume Saturday at Harvard
March 29, 2018 | Softball
It'll be a matchup of the teams from the last two Ivy League Championship Series this weekend at Harvard when the Princeton softball team heads to the Bay State.
Saturday's 12:30 p.m. doubleheader and Sunday's 12:30 p.m. single game will be on the Ivy League Network (Saturday | Sunday), and live stats are available here (Game 1 | Game 2 | Game 3).
The Tigers are 4-15 overall and 2-1 in the Ivy after completing the Ivy-opening series against Brown with a win Wednesday at '95 Field. Harvard is 10-11 and 3-3 in the Ivy, having started a weekend earlier at Yale before continuing at Cornell last weekend and playing their first home games this weekend against the Tigers.
Princeton has won the last five against Crimson, sweeping both last season's regular-season doubleheader at Harvard and taking the Ivy League Championship Series in two games at '95 Field. In 2016, after the teams split the regular-season twinbill at Princeton, the Tigers took the ILCS at Harvard in three. Princeton is 47-29 all-time against the Crimson.
The Crimson are hitting .272 as a team with Maddy Kaplan leading the regulars at .457 and as one of three starters above .300. Kathleen Duncan (7-7, 2.86) has thrown 73 1/3 of the team's 138 2/3 innings with four arms on the staff. None of the Tigers who pitched in last year's ILCS, however, have thrown this year. Duncan matched up against Claire Klausner '17 in a 1-0 Tiger win in the ILCS opener and Erica Nori '17 and Riley Wilkinson, who has been out injured this year, combined in game two against Duncan and now-graduated Taylor Cabe as the Tigers closed it out 13-4.
This season, rookie Allie Reynolds (2-8, 5.64) and senior Ashley LaGuardia (2-6, 8.29) have thrown 105 of the team's 117 innings. With Princeton hitting .259 as a team, five Tigers are hitting above .300 with two, in junior Keeley Walsh (.333) and sophomore Megan Donahey (.328) as regular starters.
Following the series against the Crimson, Princeton will return home to host Dartmouth next weekend at '95 Field.
