Top-Ranked Stanford Tops Princeton Women's Lightweights In 2018 Opener; Tigers Host Harvard Next

The Princeton women's lightweight rowing team opened its 2018 season in the most challenging environment possible, and it hopes to grow from the experience. The Tigers flew across the country to face top-ranked Stanford, which posted an open water win to retain The Class of 2015 Cup.

Princeton did take one of the three races Saturday morning in Redwood Shores, Calif., as the double finished in 7:41.2 to win by nearly seven full seconds.

The reigning IRA champion Stanford Cardinal, led by head coach and former Princeton NCAA champion Kate Bertko '06, took the top dual in 6:31.0, while Princeton finished second in 6:43.8. Stanford also won the varsity four race in 7:23.2, while Princeton took second in 7:41.9.

The third-ranked Tigers will return to more comfortable surroundings next weekend, as they will face second-ranked Harvard for the Class of 1999 Cup Saturday morning at 9:15 am. That race will be part of a full morning regatta on Lake Carnegie, with all four Princeton teams in competition. You can watch all the racing live on the Ivy League Network.
