Tigers Drop Slugfest with Valparaiso in Phoenix Finale

Princeton's five-run second inning answered an early run from Valparaiso, using a walk, four singles and two errors to plate the runs. Four Tigers chipped in RBIs during the inning.
Valparaiso, though, had a six-run third inning with a Jenna Stauffenberg three-run home run as the biggest hit, and the Crusaders added two runs in the fourth on a Jaymee Lawton two-run shot for a 9-5 lead.
Princeton cut the deficit to 9-7 in the fifth when Keeley Walsh had a two-run single to pick up hits from Megan Donahey and Kylee Pierce, but the Tigers came no closer as each team added a run in the sixth on the way to the 10-8 final. Stauffenberg added her fourth RBI of the day in the top half of that frame while Gianna Mavica grounded home a leadoff triple from fellow rookie Mackenzie Meyer for Princeton's last run.
Donahey, Pierce and Meyer all had two hits for the Tigers while Stauffenberg went 3 for 4 and Lawson went 4 for 4 for the Crusaders. Allie Reynolds started and split the pitching duties with Ashley LaGuardia, while Ashlyn Montgomery got the win in relief of Kelsie Packard for Valparaiso.
Princeton will return to play next weekend at George Washington with three games against the host Colonials and two against Fairleigh Dickinson.
