FDU, GW Top Tigers in Friday Doubleheader
March 09, 2018 | Softball
Fairleigh Dickinson and George Washington each took a game from the Princeton softball team as the Tigers opened a weekend of games at George Washington Friday.
In the first game against FDU, a 5-1 Knights win, the Knights used two walks, two wild pitches, an RBI groundout and an RBI single to score twice. It stayed 2-0 until the seventh, when FDU reached three on walks and scored three runs between a two-RBI double from Jaymee Jackson and a run-scoring sacrifice fly from Summer Mendoza. Princeton got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when Emily Taggart and Alex Colón started the inning with singles, setting up Kaitlyn Waslawski for an RBI-double.
Erica Johnson went the distance to get the win for FDU while Ashley LaGuardia threw the first 6 1/3 innings for Princeton before giving way to Alex Viscusi to make her Tiger pitching debut in the seventh.
Against GW, in a 3-1 Colonials win, Princeton scored first when Megan Donahey, Allison Harvey and Kaylee Grant had hits over the space of the first four batters with Grant bringing in Donahey. Princeton, though, left two on base in that inning and missed later chances to pull ahead, out-hitting GW 8-7 on the day. GW tied it in the bottom of the first when Jenna Cone had a two-out RBI double, and the Colonials added to the lead when Jessica Linquist had a run-scoring single in the second and a triple in the fourth to bring home GW's final run.
Allie Reynolds for Princeton and Sarah Costlow for GW dueled the whole way in the circle, with Reynolds giving up GW's three runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out a pair, and Costlow allowing eight hits and a walk, striking out four and leaving eight Tigers on base.
Princeton will play two more Saturday, against FDU at 10 a.m. and GW at 2:30 p.m. Video and live stat links can be found on Princeton's schedule page here.
