FDU, Host GW Take Pair from Princeton
March 10, 2018 | Softball
Fairleigh Dickinson took a 3-2 game and host George Washington took an 11-0, five-inning game from the Princeton softball team Saturday as the Tigers' second weekend of games continued.
Princeton will face host George Washington for a third time at 11 a.m. Sunday, a change from the original start time. Links for live stats and video for that game are available on the Tigers' schedule page here.
Against FDU, the Tigers scored first when an Allison Harvey double in the top of the first brought home a leadoff walk to Megan Donahey, but the Knights got the run back in the bottom half of the inning when they used a leadoff walk and two errors to tie it up.
Princeton again took the lead in the second inning when Donahey singled home a Mikayla Blaska base hit, but the lead lasted only until the bottom of the third when a Madison Emerson double picked up a leadoff single by Serena Meehan to tie it again. FDU took the lead for good in the fourth when Jaymee Jackson singled home a one-out single by Logan Kolehmainen to put the Knights up 3-2.
Allie Reynolds took the loss for the Tigers, giving up six hits and a pair of walks, striking out three. Abby England had the win for FDU, also giving up six hits and two walks, striking out four as each team left six runners on base.
Against GW, the Colonials used a pair of walks and back-to-back home runs from Elena Shelepak and Morgan Rinehart to take a 3-0 lead in the first, and in the second, four hits and a walk led to four GW runs and a 7-0 lead. Shelepak had a two-run single and Rinehart had a run-scoring hit while another run came home on a wild pitch in that frame.
The Colonials pushed the lead to 11-0 with four runs in the third on five hits and a hit batter. Priscilla Martinez had a two-RBI single while Shelepak had her fifth RBI of the day on a base hit and Rinehart had her third on a ground ball to grow the GW lead.
Harvey and Emily Taggart had two hits apiece against GW as Ashley LaGuardia took the loss while splitting the four innings with Alex Viscusi. Sierra Lange threw the first four innings for the Colonials to get the win before handing the ball to Ashley Pilcher to close it out.
