No. 11 Princeton Completes Perfect CWPA Regular Season; Drops No. 19 Harvard and Bucknell

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 11 Princeton Tigers (21-7, 8-0 CWPA) wrapped up a perfect Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) regular season with victories over the No. 19 Harvard Crimson (13-7) and the Bucknell Bison (12-5) at DeNunzio Pool on Sunday afternoon.
Princeton will be the No. 1 seed in the CWPA Tournament (Apr. 27-29) and take on the winner of the Harvard and Saint Francis matchup on Apr. 27 at 6 p.m.

Highlights:
Chelsea Johnson, Haley Wan and Amy Castellano all scored hat tricks in the game.
Princeton held Harvard without a goal for the final 6:41 of game time.
The Tigers scored the last five goals during that span to put the contest out of reach.

In a game that could be seen on ESPNU, Princeton started quickly with three of the first four goals. The Tigers led by as many as three in the first half on several occasions before the Crimson closed within one, 5-4, with 1:57 to go. Wan's tally before the half gave the Tigers a 6-4 advantage at the break.
Trailing 8-5 as the final quarter got underway, Harvard rallied with two consecutive goals as the clock read 6:41. T he Crimson would not score again.The Tigers finished off Harvard with five straight tallies, scoring over 10 goals for the sixth time in seven games.

Bucknell raced out with a 4-1 advantage after eight minutes with Sydney Cheong scoring the only goal Princeton. The Tigers snagged the first two tallies of the second frame, but the Bison maintained a 5-3 lead at halftime. Bucknell's Ally Furano's goal with 1:53 left in the second stanza would be the last time the road squad would throw one in the back of the net.
Seriously.
Lindsey Kelleher tied the game at the 2:34 mark of the third quarter before Johnson's game-winner under a minute later. The Tigers took a two-goal lead, 7-5, into the final stanza, before ripping off five more goals. Princeton did not allow a goal over the final 17:53 of game time.
