Princeton Tied For No. 10 in Varsity Poll, Ready For CWPA Championship This Weekend

PRINCETON, N.J. – As the Princeton Tigers prepare for the Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship, they are tied for the No. 10 team in the Varsity Poll, the conference announced today.
Princeton is 21-7 this season and currently on an eight-game winning streak. The Tigers were undefeated at DeNunzio Pool and have not lost there since Apr. 17, 2015. They are the No. 1 seed in the CWPA Championship and will take on the winner of the Harvard and Saint Francis matchup on Apr. 27 at 6 p.m.
The CWPA Championships will be hosted by Bucknell at Kinney Natatorium. Fans attending the CWPA Championship can pay for either a three-day tournament pass ($25) or a one-day pass ($10) for the league's penultimate varsity championship. Bucknell students, faculty and staff with a valid college ID, and senior citizens 65 and older, will be admitted at discounted prices of $10 (tournament pass) and $5 (one-day pass). All children 12 and under are free of charge.
All tickets are exclusively available at the door as there will be no presale in advance of the championship.
For fans unable to make the trip to Kinney Natatorium for the championship, the CWPA is offering live-streaming of the weekend on a pay-per-view basis through Stretch Internet. Fans can access the stream by CLICKING HERE. The cost of viewership is $10 per game, or $25 for the weekend tournament package that includes all the contested games.
Michigan is the No. 2 seed, followed by Hartwick, Indiana, Bucknell, George Washington, Brown, Harvard and Saint Francis. The championship match will take place on Apr. 29 at 1:30 p.m. Princeton is looking for its fourth CWPA title in program history (2000, 2012, 2013, 2015). With a conference crown, the Tigers will reach the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in last eight years.
The top 10 in the Varsity Poll remains the same as the previous week. USC sits at No. 1, followed by Stanford, Calif., UCLA and Hawaii. Michigan finished with the same voting points as Princeton and tied for No. 10. It's the second straight week that the Tigers have been in the top 10.
Haley Wan leads the Tigers in scoring with 66 goals and 105 points along with a team-best 53 steals. Kelleher is second on the squad with 93 points (51 goals, 42 assists). The junior has drawn 38 ejections and snagged 36 steals as well. Chelsea Johnson (46) and Amy Castellano (41) have also threw at least 40 goals into the back of the next. Castellano has 55 sprint wins and 50 steals as well. Marissa Webb has had an impressive freshman campaign as the team's top goalie, going 20-7 with 266 saves and a .555 save percentage.
