VIDEO: Tom Johnson Builds On All-Ivy Season, Ready To Lead 2018 Princeton Defense
April 16, 2018 | Football
The coaching staff entered the 2017 season believing Tom Johnson could be an impact linebacker, but it didn't necessarily expect him to emerge as the clear leader and a first-team All-Ivy League standout. Two things happened that changed that line of thinking, including an array of injuries on both the line and linebacker positions that forced Johnson to take a bigger role.
The other was that Tom Johnson simply improved at a rate few could have hoped for.
Johnson, a high-energy run stopped in the middle of the Tiger defense, led Princeton with 95 tackles last season, including 7.5 for losses. He averaged 11.8 stops over the final five games, including 16 in a near upset over eventual league champion Yale.
The New Jersey native went into the spring season ready to grow both individually and as a unit. You can see his journey by checking out the video above.
