Men's Lights Run Win Streak To Six, Claim Wood-Hammond Cup On Senior Day
April 21, 2018 | Men's Rowing - Lightweight
Princeton left Overpeck Lake less than a month ago with a tight loss in the Campbell Cup, and the Tigers knew they had the opportunity to make a big statement during a three-week homestand before some of its biggest remaining races.
On Saturday morning, the Tigers closed that statement with an exclamation point by retaining the Wood-Hammond Trophy and winning four of five races on Senior Day to pick up a victory over both Penn and Georgetown.
The third-ranked varsity eight, looking to build on last weekend's thrilling — and record-breaking — win over Cornell, grabbed control over both Penn and Georgetown to build a lead it wouldn't relinquish. The Tigers held an open water lead by the final 500, and they never let Penn make contact during its final sprint on Lake Carnegie during the 2018 season.
Princeton won four of five races during the morning, and then it honored its seniors following their final races on Lake Carnegie. The Class of 2018 includes Marley Brackett, James Goble, Trevor Henningson, Blake Lange, Charles Miller, Henry Ogilby, Bernardo Pacini, Ryan Pristo, Charlie Ramirez, Andrew Salmons, Jesus Serrano Cendejas, Harrison Shure, James Sincavage, Tyler Valicenti, and captain Patrick Watt.
The Tigers will head to New Haven next weekend to compete in the annual H-Y-P regatta for the Goldthwait and Vogel Cups. Harvard is currently ranked #1 in the USRowing Coaches Poll, while Yale is one spot behind Princeton at #4.
