Eye on the Tigers
Princeton clinched a spot in the Ivy League Tournament after a 15-10 win over Cornell last Saturday. The Tigers have two games remaining to try to position itself for seeding, with a share of the Ivy League title on the line today. The offense is led by freshman Kyla Sears who has 43 goals and 15 assists for 58 points. Sophomore Tess D'Orsi adds 33 points on 24 goals and nine helpers. Juniors Elizabeth George and Kathryn Hallett add 26 and 24 points and senior Ellie McNulty has 22 points. She is one of the team's leaders around the center circle with 49 draw controls and freshman Marge Donovan adding 51. The pair have also forced 10 turnovers, sitting behind junior defender Alex Argo who has 18. Freshman Sam Fish is 5-3 in net and has a .519 save percentage and a 10.25 GAA.
Post-Season Scenarios
With a win over Penn, Princeton would have a chance to at least share the Ivy League title as both teams would sit 5-1. Dartmouth is already 5-1 meaning the three teams could potentially all share the title. Penn still has to play Yale (2-4), Princeton has Columbia (3-3) and Dartmouth has Brown (1-5) left to play. If the three teams were all to finish 6-1, seeding for the Ivy League Tournament would come down, as it did last year, to goal differential among those three teams. Dartmouth has a +1, Penn is a +2, Princeton is -3, meaning the Tigers would have to win by five goals.
The Series
Princeton has a 24-22-3 in the heated rivalry with Penn since the teams first met in 1974. The teams had stretches of wins up until 2011 when things started to go back and forth. Since 2011, Princeton has won six of 11. Last year the Quakers took a 17-12 win in Philadelphia during the regular season before the Tigers won 17-8 in the Ivy League semifinal en route to the championship title.
Scouting the Quakers
No. 9 Penn is 11-2 on the season and has not yet lost an Ivy League game, at 5-0 with today's game and one against Yale remaining. The Quakers average more than 14 goals per game with sophomore Erin Barry scoring a team-high 38 while adding nine assists. Sophomore Gabby Rosenzweig has 36 tallies and 25 assists for 61 points and rookie Zoe Belodeau is one point back with 31 goals and 29 helpers. She has won the majority of the team's draws with 76 total. Senior Emily Rogers-Healion has also broken the 40-point mark with 18 goals and 26 assists. Defenders Natalie Stefan and Katy Junior are the team leaders in caused turnovers and ground balls. Sophomore Mikaila Cheeseman is 9-2 in goal with a 4.93 save percentage and a 9.61 GAA.
