April 26, 2018 | Women's Water Polo
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers had four players named to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Conference teams while Becca Dorst was selected as Coach of the Year, the conference announced today.
Haley Wan was selected to the first-team all-conference, while Marissa Webb, Lindsey Kelleher and Chelsea Johnson were named to the second-team. Webb was honored as the Rookie of the Year as well.
Dorst led the Tigers to an 8-0 conference mark and the No. 1 seed at the CWPA Championship. After starting 0-4, Princeton ran off seven straight victories. After losing to No. 3 USC on Mar. 22, the Tigers ended the year with eight consecutive wins and finished the season 21-3 after its rough start.
Johnson was one of four players on the team to score at least 40 goals, finishing with 46 tallies. She had a team-high 40 drawn ejections, adding 32 steals and 14 assists. The senior registered eight hat tricks, stole at least one pass in 20 of the last 22 contests. Perhaps her signature moment of the season was the game-winning goal in double overtime vs. No. 9 Michigan on Apr. 8, ending the Wolverines' 20-game winning streak.
Kelleher finished second on the squad in goals (51) and points (93) and led the team with 42 helpers. Her 42 assists are tied for sixth most in a single-season in program history. She also added 38 drawn ejections, 36 steals and 12 blocks. After not scoring a hat trick in her first six games, the junior posted nine in the last 22 contests. She had 13 multi-assist games and swiped at least one pass in 22 of her last 25 games. Kelleher ended the regular season on a tear with four-goal performances vs. Brown (Apr. 14) and Bucknell (Apr. 15), contributing four assists against Bucknell as well.
This is the third year that Wan has been honored as an all-conference player and second straight first-team honor. The senior is one goal shy of tying her career best, sitting with 66 tallies. She leads the Tigers in goals, points (105) and steals (53). Her 225 career goals are the fifth most all-time while her 145 helpers are the second highest. Wan scored in every game except for one, posting 20 multi-goal games and 12 hat tricks. Her best performance of the year came against No. 9 Michigan where she scored twice, had three assists and stole six passes in helping Princeton upset the Wolverines.
Webb is the first Princeton Rookie of the Year since another goalie named Ashleigh Johnson earned the honor in 2013. The freshman goalie went 20-7, stopping 266 saves and posting a .555 save percentage. Webb ended the season on fire with six consecutive 10+ save outings including 15 stops against No. 9 Michigan. She secured a save percentage over .650 in eight games this season and added 16 steals and 11 assists.
Princeton will take on the winner of the Harvard and Saint Francis matchup on Apr. 27 at 6 p.m. on the first day of the CWPA Championship.
