Princeton Tops Wisconsin, Syracuse On Senior Day, Turns Focus Towards Ivy Championships
April 28, 2018 | Women's Rowing - Open
For seniors Melissa Curtis, Kate Elfers, and Isabella Nappa, there couldn't have been a better finish to their Lake Carnegie careers than the one they experienced Saturday morning.
That trio led the 10th-ranked Princeton 1V to a 3.5-second victory over 13th-ranked Wisconsin in the regular season finale on Lake Carnegie. The win improved the Tiger 1V to 12-1 on the season and will send it to the Ivy League Championships, held in two weeks on Cooper River, with plenty of momentum.
This was a hard-fought race for the Tigers, who were coming off a win over #9 Virginia last weekend in Charlottesville. Wisconsin, who charged past Syracuse during the middle stretch of the race, made a push at Princeton over the final 1,000 meters. The Badgers did a good job of keeping close, but the Tigers never let them get within a few seats.
Wisconsin picked up wins in the other two NCAA Championship-format races, including a tight race in the V4A matchup. Princeton won the 2V4 race, while Syracuse picked up its only win in the third varsity eight boat.
While Princeton will now turn its attention to the Ivy Championships, where they have won the last two titles, the Tigers took time to honor the nine members of the Class of 2018: Kristen Albrecht, Melissa Curtis, Kate Elfers, Riley MacAulay, Isabella Nappa, Nicole Neville, Ciara Nutter, Rachel Reed, and Erica Swartwout.
