Princeton Welcomes Class of 2022

PRINCETON, N.J. – After winning the Ivy League title and advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals last season, the Princeton Tigers are ready to introduce the Class of 2022.

"We are again very excited to welcome to Princeton a very experienced and balanced group of young women," said head coach Carla Tagliente. "Ali McCarthy, Gabby Andretta, and Hannah Davey have all represented their countries internationally with Zoe Shepard and Claire Donovan competing domestically at the highest level. All five players are able to play multiple positions and step in and compete for playing time immediately so we are very excited to see the group come together this preseason after a very successful spring. The strong sense of family continues with Ali McCarthy coming in a year after her older sister Ryan captained the team to an Elite Eight berth last year and Claire Donovan is the youngest of four Donovan sisters to play for Princeton and will have one season playing alongside her sister Annabeth. Welcome to Princeton Ali, Gabby, Hannah, Zoe and Claire!"

Gabby Andretta
Position: Midfield / Defense

Field Hockey Highlights: 2017-18 NHSCA Field Hockey Athlete of the Year … 2017 NJ.com Player of the Year … Three-time National All-America (2015-17) (2017 first team, 2015-16 second team) … Three-time All-State (2017 first team, 2015-16 second team) … Team was 2017 New Jersey Tournament of Champions … Squad was three-time state champions and four-time county champions … Member of the U.S. U-17 national squad.

Favorite Field Hockey Memory: Winning the tournament of champions with Oak Knoll in my senior season.

Why Princeton? Ever since I can remember, Princeton has been my dream school. I was always impressed by the quality of their field hockey program and love all that Princeton has to offer."

What are you most looking forward to? "I'm most looking forward to being part of such a great field hockey program, while challenging myself both on and off the field at such a distinguished school."

Hannah Davey
Position: Midfield
Hometown: Derbeyshire, England
School: Repton School
Club: Repton Hockey Club

Field Hockey Highlights: Received 25 caps representing England's U-16 and U-18 teams at the Six-Nations Tournament … Won six national titles, three indoor and three outdoor for club and school teams … Captain of the club indoor team that won nationals, scoring all four goals in the final … Captained the school team that won national title, registering the winning tally in the championship.

Favorite Field Hockey Memory: Scoring my first goal for England against Belgium.

Why Princeton? On my visit, I was so impressed with the people I met and how kind everyone was. The university itself was amazing, all of the hockey team were so welcoming. I can't wait to be part of such a great group. I knew straight after my visit that this was the place for me.

What are you most looking forward to? I am very much looking forward to meeting and playing with a new group of people. I'm excited to develop my hockey in such an impressive environment.

Claire Donovan
Position: Defense
Hometown: Kennett Square, Pa.
High School: Unionville High School
Club: WC Eagles

Field Hockey Highlights: All-State player … Senior Captain … National Club Champions three times … U-19 U.S. national squad in 2016.

Favorite Field Hockey Memory: Senior year with Unionville.

Ali McCarthy
Position: Forward
Hometown: Madison, NJ
High School: Oak Knoll School
Club: New Heights / Princeton FHC

Field Hockey Highlights: First-Team All-America three times … First-team All-County and All-Conference all four years in high school … Team won three state titles and a Tournament of Champions.

Favorite Field Hockey Memory: This past high school season, my team won the Tournament of Champions. We had made it to the finals twice before, but this was the first year we won. Winning it this season was surreal, it was a great way to end my high school career.

Why Princeton? I chose Princeton because it is the number one university in country and I also fell in love with its beautiful campus. Another big influence in my decision was my older sister, Ryan, who has always been a role model in my life. Over the past four years, I have watched her have an amazing experience with her teammates and coaches.

What are you most looking forward to? I am looking forward to being pushed to my highest potential on the field and in the classroom.

Zoe Shephard
Position: Midfield
Hometown: Cazenovia, NY
High School: Cazenovia
Club: CNY Field Hockey

Hockey Highlights: Third-team All-America (2017) … NFHCA Regional Team, First Team All-State, First Team All-CNY three times (2015-17) ... Led team to State Championship game in 2015 and 2016 … Team Captain as junior and senior years … Selected to U.S. National Futures Tournament three times (2015-17) … Gold Medal at the Junior Olympics in 2015.

Favorite Field Hockey Memory: Making it to the state championship two years in a row with my high school team.

Why Princeton? Princeton had everything I was looking for, amazing academics and high-level field hockey. Princeton is a place where I will be able to push myself and continue to grow as a student and a field hockey player.

What are you most looking forward? I am looking forward to all of the new experiences and challenges that I will face over the next four years.
