VIDEO: As Tigers Prepare For Spring Game, Stephen Carlson Builds On Brilliant 2017 Season
April 06, 2018 | Football
Remember all the attention Stephen Carlson received last season after posting one of the greatest seasons ever by a Tiger wide receiver?
No, you probably don't. His gaudy numbers were slightly overshadowed by the gaudier numbers posted by classmate Jesper Horsted, and the gaudiest numbers of all, put together by quarterback and Bushnell Cup winner Chad Kanoff.
No worries, according to Carlson. As he says in the video feature above, Carlson was more proud of the overall offensive production by Princeton last fall than anything he accomplished … and he accomplished a lot. Carlson earned second-team All-Ivy League honors at wide receiver after ranking fourth in the Ivy League in both receptions (71) and receiving yards (935) , and he recorded 11 touchdown catches, which was a Princeton record entering the year, though teammate Jesper Horsted ended season with 14. Despite coming into the season with a TOTAL of three career catches, Carlson had at least one touchdown catch in eight of 10 games, including career-best three in season-opening win over San Diego.
With Kanoff preparing for the NFL Draft and Horsted starting for the baseball team, Carlson has taken over a leadership role for the football team, which has had a productive spring season inside the new bubble over Powers Field. That spring season concludes Saturday morning with the 2018 Spring Game, and then all focus turns to the fall, where Carlson will try to put together another brilliant season in Princeton's high-octane offense.
If he does so, people will notice.
