No. 15 Princeton Sweeps CWPA Weekend, Ends No. 9 Michigan's 20-Game Winning Streak

BOSTON – The No. 15 Princeton Tigers (17-7, 4-0 CWPA) swept the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) weekend by defeating the No. 12 Hartwick Hawks, 14-12, and No. 9 Michigan Wolverines, 8-7, in double overtime on Sunday at Blodgett Pool.
Princeton ended the Wolverines' 20-game winning streak and 24-game CWPA winning streak. It was the Tigers' first win over Michigan since Apr. 11, 2015.

A fast paced first quarter saw eight goals between the teams, neither team leading by more than a goal. Tied at 4-all, Hartwick registered the first two tallies of the second frame, but Princeton countered with the next two, tying the game at 6-all with 5:20 left in the first half. After the two squads exchanged goals, the Tigers snagged the last two of the second quarter, taking a 9-7 lead into halftime. The first 16 minutes featured seven lead changes and six ties.
Princeton kept Hartwick at bay in the third stanza, leading by as many as four before taking a 13-10 lead into the final eight minutes. The Hawks scored the first goal of the fourth quarter, but was held off the scoreboard for the next six minutes as Princeton earned its third straight win.

Princeton held Michigan to one tally in the second frame, taking a 4-2 advantage into the break. Michigan was kept at bay in the third stanza, closing within one twice, but head coach Becca Dorst's team was in front, 6-4, as the fourth quarter got started. Michigan's Julia Sellers' tally completed the comeback as the clock ticked under two minutes to go. In the second portion of the first overtime, Michigan took a 7-6 lead before Eliza Britt threw in the equalizer 32 seconds later.

Princeton finishes the regular season next week at DeNunzio Pool (Apr. 14-15). The Tigers take on George Washington (11:30 a.m.) and Brown (7:30 p.m.) on Saturday along with Harvard (10:30 a.m.) and Bucknell (3:30 p.m.) on Sunday.
