Daniels Advances on Day 2 of East Regional

Sophomore Joey Daniels advanced in the 110-meter hurdles to stretch Princeton's number to six who have advanced as Day 2 of the NCAA East Regional came to a close on Friday evening.
Yesterday, junior Adam Kelly punched his ticket to Eugene in the hammer throw, while both seniors Garrett O'Toole and William Paulson advanced in the 1500 and senior Josh Ingalls did so in the 800.
In the first event on the track, Daniels clocked a 13.87 in the 110-meter hurdles for the 15th fastest time of the afternoon. He was the second student-athlete to advance on time in the event. With the top three automatically and a fourth place finish in heat 4, Daniels had to wait for the next two heats to find out that he would advance on time. The quarterfinal will be held on Saturday at 1:35 p.m., with Daniels in heat 3 of 3.The top three from each heat plus the next three fastest times will advance to Eugene. Daniels holds the Princeton record in the event with a 13.80.
Senior Josh Ingalls had his career in the Orange and Black come to an end today in the 800 quarterfinals. After advancing on Friday with a 1:48.76, Ingalls clocked a 1:49.03 (53.96, 55.08) today to take sixth in heat 3. Finishing 16th overall, Ingalls just missed making the top 12 that advanced to Eugene. Just three weeks ago, he ran a PR of 1:47.76 to win the 800 at Ivy Heps in the second fastest time in league history.
 Senior Mitchel Charles just missed making the top 12 in the discus, finishing 15th with a throw of 53.35 (175-0). Freshman Robbie Otal was first up in flight one but fouled on all three attempts. In flight two, Charles was the 15th to throw. He hit 53.35 on his first attempt which pushed him into fifth place. After a second round foul Charles would not find improvement on his final throw with a 48.60 (159-5). The third flight took 10 of the top 12 qualifying spots and pushed Charles into 15th.

 In the final event on the track, freshman Ed Trippas clocked 9:00.64 in the steeplechase to finish 24th overall. In the second heat he had split times of 10.10, 1:14.95, 1:14.93, 1:15.22, 1:16.73, 1:19.04, 1:18.13 and 1:111.57. Trippas held a steady pace and waited until the sixth lap before making his move, when he moved from 12th into eighth at the bell. He maintained his standing through the final 400 meters to come one tenth from his PR of 9:00.54.
Tomorrow is the final day of Regionals with 12 Tigers looking to earn a flight alongside Kelly to Oregon. The 4x100 relay is at 12:30 p.m., Paulson and O'Toole in the 1500 at 1 p.m., Daniels in the hurdles at 1:35 p.m., Stefan Amokwandoh and Lane Russell in the triple jump at 3:30 p.m., and Conor Lundy, Jeremy Spiezio and Matt Grossman in the 5k at 8:05 p.m.
