Tigers Take Third Place in Total Team Effort at Outdoor Ivy Heps

It was a total team effort for Princeton women's track field as the Tigers claimed third place at the 2018 Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championship. With contributors in a number of events, different Tigers across the board came up big to deliver 90 points.
Princeton throwers Kennedy O'Dell and Obiageri Amaechi both earned their team's 10 points today. O'Dell threw a PR of 15.29 (50-2) in the shot put to take second place. She also had throws of 13.81, 13.98, 15.14 and 15.28. In the discus she took fifth place with a 47.58 (156-1) on her final attempt with all six of her throws 43 meters and would have earned her fifth place. During her career O'Dell has scored in 15 events and has accumulated 70 points on her own.
Amaechi has been impressive all season long, outdoing her own PR in the discus in every single meet, including today. Already holding the Princeton record in the discus, she inflated her mark today with matching throws of 54.58 (179-1). She also had marks of 53.31, 53.19 and 52.17 on her other attempts. In the shot put she took fifth with a toss of 13.66 (44-9.75).
The Tigers had a spectacular showing in the triple, as all three competitors jumped PRs and earned six points. Junior Kerri Davidson took fourth place with a 12.27 (40-3.25), the third best mark in Princeton history. Davidson hit 12.14 on her second attempt before her PR of 12.27 on her fourth attempt. Freshman Kara Steele was right behind with the fourth best mark in program history with a 12.26 (40-2.75). Steele had three jumps over 12 meters with a 12.09 and 12.10 coming on her first two attempts. Freshman Katherine Barnett just missed scoring with her PR of 11.87 (38-11.5)
Senior Maia Craver and junior Frances Lodge went 2-3 in the heptathlon. It was a tight event, with the winner being decided in the final event, the 800. Craver, who was in second place after four events yesterday, maintained her standing and earned 4,782 points. She was third in the 800 and long jump and fourth in the javelin today. Lodge improved her standing from yesterday with a second-place finish in the 200, second-place finish in the javelin and fourth-place in the long jump. She finished with 4,739 points.
Junior Brighie Leach began the day earning a point in the steeplechase with a sixth-place time of 10:33.09. It was a season best for Leach who picks up points for the first time in the steeple. Junior Allie Klimkiewicz just missed scoring with a ninth-place time of 10:49.08 but answered the bell later in the day with a fifth-place showing in the 5k. Klimkiewicz clocked 16:36.24 in the 5k and put on the wheels in the final three laps moving from ninth into fourth.
Junior Jackie Berardo gave her team six points with a third-place finish in the 800. She ran a 2:09.62 for the first time of the season yesterday, and then clocked a 2:08.54 to finish third.
Both 400 hurdles scored for the Tigers with sophomore Devon Block-Funkhouser taking fourth at 1:00.80. Senior Carly Bonnet was sixth at 1:01.18. Both had PRs in the prelims yesterday at 1:00.49 and 1:00.60, respectively.
After clocking a PR in the prelims of the 1500 yesterday, junior Madison Offstein outdid herself today. She crossed the line at 4:25.82 besting her 4:26.19 from yesterday to finish one place out of scoring in
seventh.
Another personal best came from senior Christina Walter in the 100 as she grabbed six points. Walter who has surpassed her PR three times this year did even better than yesterday's 11.85 with an 11.80 to take third in the final today.
In her first Heps freshman Lindsey Schmidt scored, taking fifth place in the high jump. After clearing 1.60 on the opening height, she cleared 1.65 (5-5) on her first attempt.
Princeton claimed fifth place in the 4x100 with a 46.71. Heide Baron, Christina Walter, Ashley Willingham and Katie DiFrancesco made up the relay (split times were unavailable).
In its second time running a 4x800 this season, Princeton took fourth. Berardo, junior Anna Jurew, Leach and junior Alie Fordyce at 8:44.23.
The 4x400 was three seconds better than its season-best at 3:42.19. DiFranceso led off with Baron in leg 2. After 800 meters Princeton had a 1:51.45. Willingham ran a 55.14 before Bonnet closed with a 55.61.
Princeton will have two more meets to set qualifying times for the NCAA East Regional. The Tigers will be at the Army West Point Twilight Meet on Thursday before hosting ECAC Championships at Weaver Stadium this weekend.
