Walton Remains in Contention for NCAA Bid Heading Into Final Round
May 08, 2018 | Women's Golf
With a strong third round Wednesday at the NCAA Regional at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, Princeton sophomore Maya Walton could earn herself a return trip to the NCAA Championships.
Through 36 holes, Walton stands at even par after a 2-over 74 in Tuesday's second round. Walton started on the 10th hole and had three bogeys over the first 12 holes but saved a shot on her last hole of the day, holing out on the par-5 ninth in four shots.
Kent State and Stanford co-lead the team standings at -2 with UCLA (-1), Mississippi (+1), Oregon (+1) and Oklahoma State (+4) holding the six team tickets to the NCAA finals heading into the last 18. Princeton is 15th in the 18-team field, which includes 13 Golfstat top-50 teams, at +28. The Tigers cut six strokes off their first-round score from Monday in Tuesday's second round.
The top three players not on the six advancing teams will move on to the NCAA finals as well. Heading into Wednesday, those spots belong to Pepperdine's Hira Naveed (-5), who leads Stanford teammates Andrea Lee and Ziyi Wang by a stroke, and two of San Diego State's Milagros Chaves (-3), California's Marthe Wold (-3) and Oklahoma State's Emma Broze (-3).
Princeton will tee off for the final round beginning at 9:05 a.m. PT/12:05 p.m. ET Wednesday. Live updates and full results are available via Golfstat here.
