Lundy Runs Personal Best at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. (6/8/18) - Conor Lundy ran a personal best in the biggest race of his sophomore season, the 5k of the NCAA Track & Field Championships. His time of 14:04.08 earned him 15th place and second-team All-America honors.
Lundy was in the back of the pack from most of the race, and was in 24th at the midway point with a 7:33.24 at 2600 meters/6.5 laps. Two laps later, Lundy was in 21st with the group of 24 strung out but no runner breaking away from the pack. With two laps remaining, Lundy started to make his move, going to the outside and pushing up four spots over 400 meters. At the bell he was situated 17th before crushing the final 400 in 1:00.88 to take 15th place with a new PR.
Lundy posted split times of 32.92, 1:13.91, 1:11.15, 1:06.43,1:10.89, 1:09.61, 1:08.35, 1:06.10, 1:07.70, 1:06.95, 1:05.23, 1:04.01, 1:00.88.
Lundy qualified for his first NCAA outdoor championship by taking eighth in the NCAA East prelims with a time of 14:11.62. He made the postseason after running a 14:07.99 in his first race of the season at the Raleigh Relays in March. Lundy was third in this event at Ivy Heps at 14:11.62. His previous NCAA experience includes two appearances in the cross country championships. Lundy has helped the Tigers win five of a possible six Ivy Heps titles since he came to Old Nassau, including a triple crown this year.
