August 03, 2018 | Women's Ice Hockey
Four members of the Princeton women's hockey team were honored recently by the America Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) as 2017-18 Krampade/AHCA All American Scholars.
Rising senior Stephanie Sucharda, rising junior Claire Thompson and rising sophomores Sharon Frankel and Sarah Verbeek each claimed the prestigious honor, now being given in its second year.
To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must have attained a 3.60 GPA in each semester during the 2017-18 season, and participated in 40 percent of their team's games.
All four Tigers were also named ECAC Hockey All-Academic last month, with Sucharda picking up Commissioner's List honors for the third straight season with having the highest GPA on the team all three years.
A former member of the Canadian U22 National Team, Sucharda is an All-Ivy League defender. She led Princeton's defenders in scoring last year as an assistant captain with a team-best 18 assists and three goals in 32 games. She finished with a +14 on-ice rating and blocked 42 shots. Thompson, also a defender, had 21 points playing in all 33 games. Frankel won 59 percent of her face offs as a freshman center and had 10 points and Verbeek collected 10 points as well.
Princeton opens the 2018-19 season on Oct. 19 at Wisconsin and face Yale in the home opener on Friday, Oct. 26 at Hobey Baker Rink.
