Volleyball Closes Pre-Ivy Play At Cherry & White Challenge
September 13, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
The three-time reigning Ivy League champion Princeton women's volleyball team may have a fourth title chase in mind, but the Tigers know they have another important weekend to develop before the 2018 league season begins. Princeton will make the trip to Philadelphia Friday and Saturday to compete in three matches at the Cherry & White Invitational, held at Temple University.
Princeton, coming off Tuesday's 3-1 road victory at Seton Hall, will bring a 5-3 record to McGonigle Hall, where the Tigers will face New Hampshire (4-7), Maryland (7-2), and Temple (1-8). The Tigers will face New Hampshire Friday at 3 pm, and then they will place twice Saturday, starting with a 2 pm match against Maryland. Princeton will face Temple in the finale at 7 pm.

The Tigers have produced a balanced offensive attack this season, with three players averaging more than 2.8 points per set. Junior Devon Peterkin, who has already earned an Ivy League Player of the Week honor, leads the team with 3.6 points per set, while reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Maggie O'Connell — coming off a 21-kill performance at Seton Hall — is averaging just over 3.2 points. Sophomore Clare Lenihan has been one of the biggest stories of the early season, as she averages more than 2.8 kills out of the middle and is hitting a team-best .386 for the Tigers.
Following the Temple match, Princeton can turn its focus to Ivy League play, which also begins in Philadelphia; the Tigers will face Penn Friday, Sept. 21 at 7 pm.
