Friday's Men's Tennis Results
September 14, 2018 | Men's Tennis
The opening day of the fall season for the Princeton men's tennis team came Friday with four players in Alabama and seven Tigers at Penn.
"We had a productive day at both events," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "At Alabama, we battled some tough conditions with mid summer like heat and humidity. Nonetheless, it's great to embrace that challenge, face stiff competition and have some success. We got off to a solid start winning both doubles followed by all four guys registering impressive singles wins. We fought the heat a bit in the afternoon singles with Ryan experiencing some cramps, but I liked the attitude and fight from all four guys. Damian had a great day and really played the way he needs to be playing in terms of tactics and execution."
At Alabama, Damian Rodriguez, Ryan Seggerman, Davey Roberts and Payton Holden all advanced out of the first round of singles, but only Rodriguez moved on through round two. He'll face Tennessee's Preston Touliatos Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT/1:30 p.m. ET in the draw's semifinals. In doubles play, both Tiger pairs moved on through round one, with Rodriguez and Seggerman as one pair and Roberts teaming with Holden. They'll play in separate draws' semifinals Saturday at 9 a.m. CT/10 a.m. ET. Two rounds of doubles and one round of singles are scheduled for Saturday.
"From all accounts the freshmen looked good at Penn," Pate said. "We'll look forward to getting back to work tomorrow at both tournaments."
At Penn, Princeton players won three of their seven singles matches and one of seven in doubles. Rookies Karl Poling, Will Peters and Justin Barki were the singles winners against Middle Tennessee with Bill Duo and Kabir Sarita getting a doubles win against MTSU.
Saturday's play at Penn will begin at 9:30 a.m. with one round of doubles and two rounds of singles.
