Princeton and Drexel traded 22 shots, seven of them on goal, but none in goal as the 25th-ranked Tigers and Dragons played to a 0-0 tie Sunday night on Sherrerd Field at the Class of 1952 Stadium in each team's final game before league play begins.
The defending Ivy League champion Tigers will open Ivy play Saturday at 4 p.m. at Yale.Â
After not playing an overtime game for the first six games of the season, Princeton played 90-plus back-to-back, first against Georgetown Thursday night when the Hoyas used a 93rd-minute penalty-kick goal to win 2-1 and then Sunday night in what was Princeton's first 0-0 tie since a 2015 game at Penn.Â
The shutout was junior Natalie Grossi's 19th of her career, tying her for third place on Princeton's career list with Dodie Colavecchio '88. One more shutout would make her the third Tiger and ninth Ivy Leaguer with 20 career shutouts, with the Princeton record standing at 23 (Kelly O'Dell '84) and the Ivy record at 29 (Dartmouth's Kristen Luckenbill, 1997-00).
Drexel outshot Princeton 12-10 overall, building up that advantage in a first half that saw the Dragons win that stat 4-2 and again in the second overtime as Drexel had the only three shots of the final 10 minutes. The Dragons held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal on the night in the first-ever meeting between the teams.
