Devon Peterkin Earns Ivy Player Of The Week Honor After Strong Effort At Penn
September 24, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
Junior Devon Peterkin made sure that the Princeton women's volleyball team got off to a winning start in Ivy League play, and her performance earned her the Ivy League Player of the Week award. Peterkin posted a double-double with 16 kills and 13 digs (in only a three-set match), and she hit .359 in the 25-18, 25-19, 28-26 victory over the Quakers.
This is already the second Player of the Week honor for Peterkin, who claimed the Ivy's first award of 2018 after leading the three-time reigning Ivy champions to a sweep of the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament at Colgate. Peterkin was named the tournament MVP that weekend, and her 5.3 kills per set Friday was the Ivy's best mark of the opening league weekend.
"Devon continued her exceptional play this past weekend against Penn," said head coach Sabrina King. "We have relied on her to carry a heavier load of the offense this season, and she has responded well with some clutch swings late in matches."
Peterkin and her Princeton teammates will finally make their home debut this coming weekend, starting with a Friday night match against Brown (7 pm). On Saturday, the Tigers will host Yale in a rematch of the 2017 Ivy League playoff match, a 3-0 Princeton win in New Haven.
