Varsity Poll
PRINCETON, N.J. – After a stretch of one-game in almost three weeks, the No. 12 Princeton Tigers begin Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) play this weekend at DeNunzio Pool.

The Tigers take on MIT (11 a.m.) and Brown (5 p.m.) on Saturday (Sept. 29) before a contest vs. No. 7 Harvard (12 p.m.) on Sunday (Sept. 30). The Crimson are the defending NWPC champions after beating Princeton in the title game last year.

Princeton has never lost to MIT in 14 games all-time. After starting the season 0-3, the Engineers have rolled off four wins in last five games.

The Tigers are 22-10 against Brown in program history including a streak of three in a row. The Bears are 7-5 overall, having won four straight contests. Their signature victory of 2018 came with a 12-11 overtime victory over No. 8 Pepperdine.

Princeton is also 24-8 all-time against Harvard including a 14-4 mark at home. The Crimson are 8-3 so far, three of their victories coming against ranked foes. Two weeks ago, Harvard dropped No. 3 California in overtime.

Matt Payne leads the men's water polo squad with 21 goals and 29 points. He has 186 tallies and 111 assists in his career, both of which are in the program's top-five. Four other players have scored at least 10 goals including Ryan Wilson, who has a team-high 13 helpers. His 185 career assists are the most by a Princeton player ever. Four Tigers have registered at least 10 drawn ejections, highlighted by Wyatt Benson's 17 this season. Ryan Melosini and Billy Motherway have split time at goalie, combining to post a .525 save percentage with 105 saves.

Today's Varsity Poll had the top six remaining the same from the previous week. USC is No. 1, followed by UCLA, Stanford, California, and UC-Santa Barbara. Harvard is No. 7 while Brown was receiving votes.
