Women's Tennis Team Opens ITA Kick-Off Classic with Win over Michigan State
January 26, 2019 | Women's Tennis
The first match of the spring dual season for the Princeton women's tennis team was a win Saturday as the Tigers beat Michigan State 4-2 to open the ITA Kick-Off Classic at North Carolina.
The win sets up a Sunday contest at 1 p.m. against host and No. 3-ranked North Carolina, which beat VCU 4-0 Saturday, for the Kick-Off Classic site championship.
Saturday, Princeton got out in front with a doubles-point win, with Stephanie Schrage and Nathalie Rodilosso at third and Grace Joyce and Clare McKee at second rallying to get the point after Michigan State won on court one.
Princeton followed that with singles wins from Joyce on court five and Schrage on court one to pull within one point of winning the match, but Michigan State responded with wins on courts two and six to pull within 3-2.
That left the matches on courts three and four to decide it, and before McKee could finish her three-setter on court four, Nicole Kalhorn won a third-set tiebreaker to get the clinching fourth point.
Video for Sunday's match will be available here, and live scoring will be available here.
