Princeton Begins Heart of Ivy Schedule At Cornell and Columbia This Weekend

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers begin the heart of the Ivy League season as they travel to Columbia and Cornell this weekend.

The Tigers battle the Lions on Friday (4 p.m.) before a contest at Cornell on Saturday (5 p.m.). A tape delay of the game vs. Columbia can be seen on Saturday on NBC Sports Philadelphia Plus and SNY.

Before we talk about this Columbia/Cornell weekend, let's take one last look at Princeton's first Ivy matchup vs. Penn in early January.

Defense – The Tiger had their lowest shooting output (31.8) in six games. In the fourth quarter, Penn outscored Princeton by 11 and allowed just five baskets to the home team in the comeback victory.

Eleah Parker – Parker got off to a great start for the Quakers, going 4-of-6 from the floor in the first half, contributing eight points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks. She finished with 14 points, seven boards and five blocks.

Showing Off From Deep – The Tigers had seven three-pointers against the Quakers, but was only 3-of-14 from beyond the arc in the second half. Outside of Carlie Littlefield and Gabrielle Rush, the rest of the team made one trey.

Bella Buckets – After starting 1-of-5 in the first quarter, Bella Alarie finished the Penn contest with 21 points, 17 rebounds, four assists and three blocks. The junior is now tied for second all-time in program history in double-doubles with Margaret Meier '78 and Ellen DeVoe '86. She is 12 shy of Niveen Rasheed '13 (35). With her three swats, Alarie (156) is one off the all-time mark set by DeVoe.

On To Columbia / Cornell …

Defense? – Columbia sits 244th in the country in scoring defense (67.6) along with having a RPI of 248. The Lions have won three of their last four contests, including a split with Cornell. In two wins last season, Princeton shot 46.0 percent from the floor against Columbia and 34.2 percent from deep.

Cornell ranks near the top of the NCAA in scoring defense (57.1, 32nd) and field goal defense (36.8, 55th). Opponents have shot over 40 percent once in the last seven meetings. However, the Big Red are only 217th in RPI, which may skew its numbers. The Tigers swept the Big Red last year behind a blistering offensive pace, making half of their attempts. Â

Sienna Durr – Durr is Columbia's leading scorer at 14.2 points per game. She's made over half her shots (50.9) and has added 6.3 rebounds per contest. Durr struggled in her first Ivy matchup, scoring two points against the Big Red, but rebounded with 13 the following week. She has scored in double figures in three of her last four outings.

Struggle From The Three-Point Line – Cornell is near the bottom in Division-I in three-point field goals per game (3.8, 330th) and three-point percentage (26.2, 322nd). The Big Red has made more than five long-distance buckets just twice. Only two players on the roster have knocked down more than 10 threes all season.
