Thom Has Two-Point Night for Princeton But Late Goal Gives Cornell the Win, 3-2

Sophomore defenseman Matthew Thom had a goal and an assist but a late goal by the Big Red gave No. 20 Cornell a 3-2 win over Princeton on Friday night at Hobey Baker Rink.
Cornell (7-5, 5-2) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Brenden Locke and Brendan Smith.
Princeton (5-9-2, 3-5-1) started the second strong and finished the period outshooting Cornell and cutting the deficit to one.
Thom scored his third goal of the season when he collected a cross-ice pass from fellow defenseman Mark Paolini and rifled it up under the cross bar. Freshman Christian O'Neill was credited with the secondary assist, his fourth point of the season.
After scoring his first two career goals last Saturday versus Maine, freshman Corey Andonovski added another as he buried a Thom rebound at 11:37 of the third period as the Tigers drew even, 2-2.
"It was great race to the puck by Corey, and that's what we talk about, winning those races," head coach Ron Fogarty said.
A controversial call came on the game-winning goal at 12:55 of the third. No goal was the call on the ice for goaltender interference, but after a video review the call was reversed.
"It was an unfortunate play at the end there that cost us the game," Fogarty said. "It's tough one. We all the points we can get this time of the year, but we just have to get ready for the Colgate - can't do anything about it now."
Zero penalties were called in the game - the first time a Division I game has had zero calls since Dec. 1, 2015 (AIC vs Bentley).
Princeton hosts Colgate tomorrow at 7 p.m.
