Princeton Boathouse Brings Home Two Gold Medals At Head of Charles
October 20, 2019 | Heavyweight Rowing, Women's Rowing - Open, Women's Rowing - Lightweight, Men's Rowing - Lightweight
BOSTON – The Shea Rowing Center will bring home two titles from the prestigious Head of Charles regatta.
"Our team's hard work began in August on its own and to see it come to a fruition was great to see," said head coach Marty Crotty. "The Head of Charles is a tough course and our coxswains Sydney Edwards and Riesa Cassano did an outstanding job of leading our boats during the race."
The men's lightweight 8+ won a thriller by a six-tenths of a second (14:06.75) over Penn. The next closest team was Cornell at 14.13.26. The other Tigers' boat was eighth at 14:39.63.
The other title was by the women's lightweight 8+ group. That squad raced out to a 16:07.25, 1.62 seconds over Radcliffe. The Tigers were also ahead of Georgetown, Boston University, Stanford, Wisconsin and MIT. Paul Rassam's 4+ - unit finished with a 19:24.80, 1:26 behind the leader, despite colliding with several boats, resulting in a hole in the hull.
Princeton's women's rowing 8+ group earned a top-five finish among 32 competitors (15:30.10). The winner of the race featured Erin Reelick '16 (15:05.84). Dauphiny's 4+ squad nabbed a fifth-place finish (18:03.77) among the 14 boats in the event.
The heavyweight's 4+ boat crossed the finished line at 19:44.03. Later in the day, the Tigers' 8+ two groups secured a 14:14.97 and 14:25.94 among the 30-team field.
The Tigers will host the Princeton Chase next weekend at Lake Carnegie.
